Are Pixstar digital frames worth the money?
Pixstar digital frames are probably one of the most versatile and robustly featured frames on today’s market. Pixstar has a reputation as being one of the easiest frames to use – and they’re one of the few premium frames that cater to elderly users & families. Features like extensive Wi-Fi functionality, free-for-life cloud storage, access to both a mobile app & web dashboard, and more, give the Pixstar digital frame the edge it needs over most competing frames.
Pixstar was the company that created and developed the idea of having a digital frame with a unique & dedicated email address. This unique function lets you send photos from any device to your frames via email. It was a revolutionary step at the time. While some other frames offer this feature now, it shows Pixstar’s attention to detail and user-focused approach.
Pixstar digital frames are set at a very competitive price point. They sit well below other premium frames like Aura while offering substantially more features & performance. Pixstar’s frames offer excellent value for money considering that they’re one of the most feature-rich digital frames on the market. When you combine their ease of use with their immersive displays, it’s hard to ignore the sheer value.
The Pixstar Snap mobile app lets you send photos, videos, and audio messages to your Pixstar frames from anywhere in the world. You can send pictures to several frames at the same time and can even send up to 250 pictures in one go. This mobile app combines excellently well with the web dashboard that lets you remotely manage local & cloud storage, link web albums from social media & photo-sharing sites, and remotely manage your frames settings, starting slideshows, etc.
Pixstar’s digital photo frames are incredibly versatile choices for families. The ability to remotely control any of your connected frames from anywhere in the world is a massive bonus. It makes these frames a balanced and capable choice for busy families or those with elderly users.
Despite all these features & advanced functions, Pixstar digital picture frames are incredibly easy to use. The interfaces are intuitive & smooth, you’re easily able to start slideshows with just a couple of button presses, and more. They can be wall-mounted, rested on a flat surface, and are suitable for use in large & well-lit rooms.
Pixstar digital frames are well-rounded frames that quickly earn their keep in your home & family life. They make connecting with your loved ones quicker and easier than ever before – offering a reliable and fun way to share your favorite moments & memories.
How do Pixstar digital frames compare with other top frames?
Unlike other top digital picture frames like the Skylight or Nixplay, Pixstar digital frames don’t have any subscription fees. Frames like the Skylight and Nixplay charge extra – but optional – annual fees that are required to unlock features like cloud storage (and increasing your allotment), video & audio support, use of the mobile app & web interface, and the ability to create customized playlists.
Most digital picture frames, especially in the premium range, use 16:9 or 16:10 aspect ratios for their displays. While this might seem intuitive, it’s not great in practice. Most smartphones capture pictures in 4:3 and most cameras capture photos in 3:2. This means that these photos won’t display using the full display of 16:9 and 16:10 screens.
If you don’t edit the pictures to match the frame’s aspect ratio, they’ll be distorted, cropped, zoomed, or boxed into the center of the display by ugly black pillar bars. This is why Pixstar digital frames use 4:3 aspect ratios. Almost all the photos sent to the frame via the mobile app will match the display perfectly – enhancing immersion and improving the overall viewing experience.
Finally, Pixstar’s remote control feature is rather unique & comprehensive. Your Pixstar frames can be remotely controlled via the web dashboard and you have almost the same level of control over the frame as you would use it in person. It’s not a commonly offered feature and you’ll be hard-pressed to find another frame that does it better. It’s the perfect feature for families & elderly users as you can ensure they always receive and can see the latest photo without having to lift a finger.
Do Pixstar digital frames have any extra fees?
Pixstar digital frames don’t charge any extra or recurring fees. Competing frames like the Skylight & Nixplay charge optional annual subscription packages to unlock features like cloud storage, use of the mobile app/web interface, and video & audio playback. Pixstar’s digital photo frames offer all of these features – and to a greater extent – without charging any extra fees.
You get free-for-life cloud storage, full use of the Pixstar Snap mobile app & web dashboard, video & audio support, and free firmware updates. We seldom recommend buying digital photo frames that require additional payments or fees as, without them, they’re essentially the same as cheap or mid-range frames – but cost a lot more.
Can Pixstar digital frames work without Wi-Fi?
Pixstar’s digital picture frames have 8GB of internal storage. All of your received photos & web albums are automatically saved to the frame’s internal storage. They’re available to view offline (even web albums) and can be viewed in slideshows. You can edit & make changes to your frame’s local storage, start & manage slideshows, adjust the frame’s settings, and use non-Wi-Fi features like game apps without being connected to Wi-Fi. You only need to reconnect to download & sync new or pending media. Competing frames like the Aura need to be connected to Wi-Fi at all times to function. Without an active connection, Aura’s digital frames won’t work.
Do Pixstar digital frames play videos & audio?
Pixstar’s digital frames can play 2-minute videos clips and audio messages. This is more than almost all of the other digital photo frames on the market. While it might not seem like much, it’s important to remember that digital photo frames aren’t designed for video playback – the same way you can’t play videos with traditional wall frames. Video & audio playback is a bonus feature that very few other digital frames do better than the Pixstar. Videos & audio messages can be sent to the Pixstar frame via the Pixstar Snap mobile app or by USB/SD card.
