Does the digital photo album frame use Wi-Fi?
Pix-Star’s digital photo album frame makes extensive use of Wi-Fi to let you share photos directly with your frame via the mobile app, email, web interface, and more. Pix-Star’s Wi-Fi connectivity lays the foundation for its more advanced features like free-for-life cloud storage, importing photos from social media, and remote configuration support.
Not all digital frames offer Wi-Fi or cloud connectivity. It’s a feature that’s almost exclusively found with high-end digital frames like the Pix-Star. Few cheap or mid-range frames offer Wi-Fi connectivity. Instead, they rely on internal storage capacity and USB/SD card support. For most modern homes and families, we highly recommend getting a Wi-Fi & cloud digital frame. It’s well worth the investment and makes connecting with your loved ones frustration-free, familiar, and intuitive.
How many photos can a digital photo album frame hold?
This depends on the size of internal storage and whether or not the frame supports a USB/SD card. Top frames like the Pix-Star let you connect a USB/SD card and play slideshows directly from them. You don’t need to copy any of their content to the frame’s internal storage to view them in slideshows. Pix-Star doesn’t place any limits on the maximum storage capacity of USB/SD cards (for example, some frames require USB/SD cards to be smaller than 16GB).
Pix-Star’s 8GB of internal storage plus their USB/SD card gives you virtually unlimited storage space for all of your photos. Just 8GB of internal storage is enough for between 10,000 to 30,000 photos depending on their format and resolution (we recommend matching the frame’s native resolution to avoid wasting storage space).
Can a digital photo frame import albums from social media?
The Pix-Star digital photo frame can import photos directly from around a dozen social media, photo-sharing, and online storage platforms. These are known as web albums and they’re saved to the Pix-Star’s internal storage for offline use. You can also manage linked web albums remotely via the web interface, start slideshows from them from anywhere, and link new albums at any time.
Supported platforms include Facebook, Google Drive & Photos, Dropbox, Instagram, Flickr, and more. Pix-Star’s web album feature lets you connect several frames to a single account, and connect several accounts to multiple (or one) frame(s).
This web album feature is not universally offered. It’s rarely offered outside of the high end of the digital frame market. Some top frames only let you access one or two platforms; whereas most require you to manually download the photos then load them to the frame via a mobile app, web interface, or USB/SD card.

Can digital photo album frames play videos too?
Many top-tier digital photo album frames can play videos as well as audio files – but it’s not a universally offered feature. By contrast, most cheap and mid-range digital frames don’t offer any video or audio support, only letting you play photos within slideshows. Even among some of the top digital frames, videos can be played via the media gallery, but cannot be played in slideshows alongside photos.
Video playback is a great bonus feature to have on your digital frame but should be the main deciding factor. There are tons of other key features such as W-Fi and cloud connectivity that impact the frame’s real-world practicality more profoundly.
Even when offered, video playback is usually limited according to the size or length of supported video files. For example, Pix-Star’s frames let you play 2-minute video clips (which is more than almost every other frame o the market), Dragon Touch frames let you play only 30-second clips, and both Skylight & Nixplay frames require an additional subscription to unlock video playback.
Pix-Star’s frames are a particularly great choice as they let you include videos in slideshows, alongside photos. Videos can be played with their recorded audio, or can be set to pay muted by default. Pix-Star’s frames let y9u send video clips to any of your Pix-Star frames via the Pix-Star Snap mobile app. Alternatively, you can send videos to the frame via a USB/SD card.
