In this guide, we’re going to guide you through how to download photos on a digital picture frame. We focus on the Pix-Star digital frame and will show you the exact steps to get photos onto your frame from social media, web albums, and more.
The Pix-Star digital picture frame is one of the most versatile frames on the market. With Wi-Fi and cloud capabilities, you get a robust feature set and one of the easiest premium frames to use on the market.
Before getting started, make sure your Wi-Fi connection is stable and that your Pix-Star frame is online and ready to go. You’ll also need access to the web interface, which is best used on a computer. This is where you’ll link the web albums that you want to download to the frame.
With everything ready, let’s jump into the steps!
- Register your Pix-Star frame at Pix-Star.com
The first step in learning how to download photos on a digital picture frame is to make sure your frame is registered and connected to the web interface/cloud system. If you’ve already done this, you can skip this step and move right to Step 2.
If this is your first time using the Pix-Star frame and you still need to register it via the web interface, here’s what you need to do. Go to pix-star.com in your browser and click on the “Register a new frame” option near the top of the page (next to the login button).
To find your frame’s serial number, turn on your Pix-Star digital frame. From the main menu, click on the “settings” option. In the left-hand panel, scroll down to and select the “About” page. The third line of the page should be the “Serial Number”. Type the serial number into the “My Pix-Star Serial Number (S/N)” field back on the web interface and click the “Check availability” button.
This will check the frame’s serial number and make sure it hasn’t already been registered. If there is an issue now, click on the “Contact us” link below the field for assistance. Once you move to the next page, follow the instruction to complete the registration setup.
Note that your Pix-Star frame should be connected to the internet throughout this process. It’s not essential at the start but will help avoid some common issues. You should have connected to Wi-Fi the first time you set the Pix-Star frame-up. - Select the external pictures to import
Once you’ve registered and connected your Pix-Star frame, you should see it listed at the top of the main pix-star.com page. Click on your frame’s box (check that it’s marked as “status: online”) to be taken to the dashboard.
This is the interface where you can manage all your frame’s settings and slideshows remotely, import external photos & web albums, add reminders, and much more. Under the “Dashboard” side-panel heading, scroll down to find the “web albums” section. This is where you’ll import and download photos from online sources such as social media and photo-sharing platforms.
Under the “Web album” heading, click on the “Import external pictures”. This will take you to a screen that lists all the platforms that are supported by the frame. The most popular among these are Facebook, Instagram, Dropbox, Google Photos, Google Drive, and Flickr.
Choose the platform you want to download photos from and input your login information for that profile. Once you’ve successfully linked your account within that platform, you can select the photos and albums you want to sync to your Pix-Star frame. - Sync the selected photos/albums to your frame
Simply click the “Click to link” option on the right side of the display for each album you want to link and sync to your frame. This will begin the linking and syncing process. You can click on multiple albums and don’t have to wait for one to finish to start linking the next.
You can also return to the page with all the supported platforms by clicking on the “Import external pictures” button again. You can link the same album to multiple frames – so long as they are registered and you have a multi-frame account.
It might take some time to sync all the selected albums to your Pix-Star frame, so don’t fret if you don’t see them on the frame straight away. The amount of time this takes depends on the number of photos in the album and the file size of each. Generally speaking, social media and photo-sharing platforms do quite a good job at compressing images to save storage space, so you shouldn’t be too concerned about doing this manually.
Now you’re ready to find the photos on your frame. - Start a slideshow with your new pictures
Now that you’ve linked, synced, and downloaded the photos, you’re ready to view them on your Pix-Star frame. From the home screen, select the “My pictures, videos & messages” option and press “Ok”.
Navigate to the “Web Albums” tab at the top of the next window. This is simply done with the arrow directional keys on the remote controller. Once “Web Albums” is highlighted, hit the “down” arrow key to browse through all connected web albums.
Photos downloaded from Facebook will be saved under the “My Facebook Albums” section. Google Photos albums will be saved under the “My Google Photos Album”, and so on. Each connected platform will have its section, where you can browse through all connected and downloaded web albums.
Clicking on an album will open it and let you browse through the photos. If you want to view just that folder in a slideshow, select the “Play all pictures” option from the left-side panel (red) and press “Ok”. Alternatively, from the main web albums page, click the “Select albums to play”. You can then select multiple albums from different platforms and sources to play in one big slideshow.
You can also view all the photos on the frame in a slideshow by clicking on the “Play all the frame’s pictures” option from the main menu.
You’re Ready to Go!
Now that you know how to download photos on a digital picture frame from external sources like social media and photo-sharing accounts – you’re ready to get started. It might take a couple of tries to get used to the system, but once everything is linked and synced, it’ll only take you a minute or two!
Enjoy viewing your photos from your favorite social media and photo-sharing sites on your Pix-Star frame – and don’t forget to share them with your loved ones!
