Are GiiNii digital picture frames worth buying?
GiiNii digital picture frames are about as basic as they come. These are some of the cheapest digital frames on the market and only offer the most basic features & functions. You’re not getting a premium frame that can connect to Wi-Fi, receive photos remotely, be remotely controlled, or with a big & brilliant display.
GiiNii digital picture frames are very small 7-inch digital frames that only work offline. You can’t connect to Wi-Fi and as such, don’t have access to more advanced features like cloud storage, mobile apps, or web dashboards. 7-inch frames are exceptionally small when compared to the 10-inch digital frames found in the upper end of the market. They immediately appear outdated and have an interface to match.
While these are cheap digital picture frames, they’re still relatively pricey for what they offer. They’re not a great match for most modern homes & families due to their lack of functionality & features. You need to be directly in front of the frame to change settings, start slideshows, and browse through slideshows. Unlike many other cheap digital frames, there is no remote control that lets you control the frame from within the same room.
GiiNii digital picture frames are plagued by negative reviews on online shopping platforms like Amazon. You’ll be hard-pressed to find a single positive review about the capabilities or longevity of these frames. The most frequent complaints are about their build quality – with many of them being frames received dead on arrival. They tend to only last a couple of weeks or months before they stop working – or start showing significant issues.
The clunky user interface, severely limited internal storage space, tiny display, and poor built quality mean these frames aren’t a great choice – especially for 2021 and beyond.
We almost always suggest that you avoid cheap digital picture frames for these very reasons. While the price difference may not seem so drastic – the difference in build quality and functionality is. Below, we take a look at how these GiiNii digital picture frames compare with premium digital frames like the Pix-Star and the standard high-end digital frame.
How do GiiNii digital picture frames compare with premium frames?
We always recommend saving up a little longer and getting a premium digital picture frame. The jump in functionality, durability, and real-world performance is significant when compared with the price increase. With features like Wi-Fi connectivity, cloud storage, larger high-resolution displays, and more – you get excellent value for money and a frame that’s practical for families & elderly users.
One of the most popular premium frames is the Pix-Star digital picture frame. It’s one of the top-selling digital frames on Amazon and one of the few top digital frames that cater to families & elderly users. This is seen through unique features like free-for-life cloud storage and the Pix-Star Snap mobile app.
With premium frames like the Pix-Star, you can send pictures to all your Pix-Star frames from anywhere in the world. This is done via Wi-Fi or through the cloud and is probably the biggest way that cheap and premium frames differ. You can use the mobile app to send up to 250 photos to several frames at the same time. You can link photo albums from social media & photo-sharing platforms – and they’re saved to internal storage for offline use. You can also send pictures to your frames via email and by USB/SD card.
Pix-Star’s frames offer highly customizable and personalized slideshows. You can easily control which photos you see, how often you see them, and how they appear on the display. Both the brightness & color settings can be manually adjusted to suit any slideshow, theme, or occasion. Pix-Star’s digital frames can be remotely controlled via the web dashboard. Here you can manage up to 25 connected Pix-Star frames, change their settings, start slideshows, control local & cloud storage, and much more. It’s a great choice for families and makes photo-sharing effortless – and lets you get your grandparents involved.
If you’re going to get a digital picture frame, get something that has some level of future-proofing. Premium digital frames like the Pix-Star are the perfect choice for families and offer significantly more features & functions than what you’d get with cheap options like the GiiNii digital picture frame. You’ll get better value for money in the long run and a frame that’ll effortlessly bring you closer to your loved ones!
How to send photos to GiiNii digital picture frames?
Since GiiNii digital picture frames can’t connect to Wi-Fi and don’t offer any cloud functionality, they can only work offline. The only offline for sending pictures to the frame is by USB/SD card. It’s worth noting that cards larger than 32GB aren’t supported and you’ll need to ensure that all the photos are in the right format. You aren’t going to have much control over the play order & frequency of the photos played in slideshows directly from the USB/SD card. You can only play a randomized slideshow will all of the photos on the USB/SD card – there’s no way to select specific folders or files to play from.
Can GiiNii digital picture frames be wall mounted?
GiiNii digital picture frames can only be rested on a flat surface via the frame’s stand. Unlike many premium and mid-range digital frames, the GiiNii doesn’t come with any standard VESA mount or dedicated hanging holes. This is common for cheap digital frames. It’s also worth noting that these frames are not battery-powered – as is suggested on their Amazon page. They need to be connected to the power outlet at all times. There are quite a lot of complaints that the frame was delivered without the power adapter or cable – so make sure to do all the checks during the initial unboxing.
How long do GiiNii digital picture frames last?
GiiNii digital picture frames don’t have a good reputation when it comes to building quality and longevity. Their Amazon product page is littered with one-star reviews claiming that the frame was delivered non-functional, with missing parts or damage to the display/body, and more. Make sure to keep all the original packaging and accessories in case you need to return the frame for a refund. Better yet, avoid all these potential issues and get a more premium digital picture frame like the Pix-Star.
